the Pyrmont Cares February 2023 newsletter

We are back for 2023

Thank you in advance to all our volunteers who have indicated that they’ll be returning to duties now that 2023 is upon us. Requests for our support are already hitting our limit and we expect a busy year as more and more people are impacted by  rising interest rates and a growing cost of living.

Before we get into 2023 look at what we did last year:

  • We, like other charities and businesses, juggled the difficulties of managing rosters as our volunteers were impacted by Covid and other infections.

  • We continued to improve some of our systems, automating our Membership and Rostering systems and implementing new data collection protocols and requirements to ensure that the personal data of our Members and Volunteers is secure.

  • We collected approximately 736 donated items of furniture and whitegoods and just as many small electricals and household items from 202 donors
    and
we delivered approximately 1400 items to 170 recipients/households.

Our focus in 2023

Our Committee is focused on our highest priority, increasing our volunteer force. We are eager to get new and returning volunteers onto our truck crew. Please pass the message to your friends and neighbours. Our volunteers find working with us rewarding as they help those in need as well as our environment by keeping furniture items out of landfill. It only takes four hours a month (or less if that’s all you can manage).

We urgently need:

  • Someone with administration skills to assist with managing furniture donations. The role can be done from home in your own time, requires about half an hour a day and up to 2 hours once a week to prepare the final donation list for the week.  You will need to be able to use our website and donation system which is very easy and be ready to talk to our donors on the phone. You will work closely with a small team who share this role on a rotational basis.

And we are also looking for:

  • someone with some IT knowledge to help manage our systems and

  • truck crew and drivers

If you are up for one of these, or know someone who is, pick up the phone to Michele 0411 303 597 or get in touch by using our contact page.

Thanks to our sponsors

We couldn’t continue our operations without the generous support of our sponsors and we thank them for continuing to support us through 2023.
Thanks to Raine and Horne, Christmas in Pyrmont, Pride Electrical, Main on Constructions and The Blue Eye Dragon whose donations ensure that we keep our truck running and our rent paid. Thanks also to our individual donors and Woolworths Pyrmont for their support of our work.

We were also delighted to receive a generous donation from the Global Federation of Chinese Business Women.  Representatives recently enjoyed a tour of our operations at Leichhardt.
